HOST: Kyiv music lowers have discovered some classical British music pieces played for the first time in Ukraine. The concert of the British chamber music entitled Introduction to the Orchestra immersed the public into the atmosphere of the famous British Proms, widely-known British classical music festival with over century-old traditions.

It was my hope to organize a concert of British music in Ukraine. And it was very successful. People loved it, people never heard this music before. They wanted more. I think we’ll do it again, this concert. I think it might be done every year. We want to creat this prominent sense of loving music. I was very surprised at how people... on and sing, they love to be informal, enjoyment aspect. Music is fun, it’s not just for sitting. - Paul Henry, conductor from Great Britain.

HOST: Jaroslava Sergienko, a harp player in the Collegium Kyiv orchestra says it’s a lot of fun to work with the British conductor and play British music:

Він такий дуже своєобразний, з ним дуже цікаво працювати. Враження тільки найкращі, досвід праці з диригентом теж дуже цікавий і дуже мені сподобалось. Вчили їх на протязі тижня, сольні місця вони завжди складні тому що треба внести якусь свою ізюминку.

Y.S.: He is quite a personality, and it’s extremely interesting to work with him. I have only the best impressions, the experience of working with this conductor is very interesting. I liked it very much. In just one week we learned all pieces for the concert, the solo parts are always difficult because you have to make them really special. – Said Yaroslava Sergienko, harp player of the Collegium Kyiv orchestra.

HOST: The concert featured parts of The Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra by Benjamin Britten, the piece seen as one of the supreme examples of educational music, a classic introduction to the sound of the orchestra for young people. Before the piece was played, the public heard some explanations on the role of each instrument in the piece. Moreover, the Kyiv audience heard the Suite of Five Movements from Rossini by

Benjamin Britten, English Folk Songs Suite by Ralph Vaughan-Williams and celebrated Fantasia on British Sea-Songs by Henry Wood. It is famous for being played at the last night of the Promenade Concerts, one of the most popular British festivals of classical music. At the end of the concert Kyiv music lovers sang Rule, Britannia!, waved small British flags and blew horns, absolutely blending with the orchestra and plunging into the world of classical music.
