Jazz in Kiev
The International Jazz Festival Jazz in Kiev
The International Jazz Festival “Jazz in Kiev” first took place in the Ukrainian capital last October and immediately gained a reputation as a significant jazz event in the country. For three days Kiev hosted some brilliant jazz musicians including British bassist Dave Holland, American guitarist Charlie Hunter, well known to Kiev’s public the Israeli bassist Avishai Cohen with his new vocal project, as well as the second-to-none vocal master Al Jarreau, the only singer in history to date who has become a Grammy winner in three categories at the same time: jazz, pop and R&B, as the festival’s headliner. Ukrainian jazzmen took part in the festival as well: the drummer Alec Fantayev’s band and saxophonist Dmitry Alexandrov and drummer Oleg Markov as part of Misha Tsyganov and Sasha Sipiagina”s United Quintet “Russian Americans”.
Jazz in Kiev’s organizer became the eponymous production centre, whose soul and art director is the famous Kiev jazz journalist and producer Alexei Kogan. “Master Klass” joined in the support of this project and provided its premises for the meetings and master classes with the jazz stars.
This year the cooperation is going to continue. Moreover, the Cinema and Concert Hall at “Master Kass” will host the prologue concert to the Festival – on September 28th we will receive the famous Polish pianist Wlodek Pavlic with his trio. The trio’s concerts themselves are on October 16, 17 and 18 in the Hall of the International Centre of Culture and Arts.
