Poetry evening by Arseniy Tarkovskiy at “Master Klass”

On 14th April the guests to the Culture and Education Centre “Master Klass” felt that special air of Arseniy Tarkovskiy’s poetry. The poetry evening by Arseniy Tarkovskiy became the first event within the framework of the Creativity Days of Tarkovskie “Father and Son”.

Arseniy’s daughter, Maryna Tarkovskaya brought some records on which Arseniy Oleksandrovych had recited his poems, thus the evening was opened by the voice of the great poet himself. All the guests listened to favourite poems read by the author.

Later on, our guests started to talk. Maryna Arsenyevna recounted about her father, family, the history of Tarkovskie’s generation and its connection with the famous Tobilevych dynasty. For example, Arseniy Oleksandrovych’s aunt, Nadezhda, was the wife of Ivan Karpovych Tobilevych (Karpenko-Kariy), one of the coryphaeus of Ukrainian national theatre.

Maryna’s husband and Andriy’s friend, Oleksandr Gordon shared his impressions about Arseniy Oleksandrovych, and the way his attitude to him as his friend and wife’s father and poet, changed.
A guest from Great Britain, Leila Aleksander, remembered Andrey Arsenyevich’s stories about his father and their relationship after Tarkovskiy-junior left the USSR.

Ukrainian poet Dmytro Pavlychko read a poem by Arseniy Tarkovskiy in his own way in Ukrainian and shared his memories about his acquaintance and friendship with the poet, the traces of Ukrainian in his destiny, and the influence of Tarkovskiy’s creativity among other Soviet poets.

In addition, Arseniy Tarkovskiy’s poems were recited by young actors of Kyiv theatres.

Maryna Arsenyevna made a final speech and thus ended this hearty and creative evening.
