“Chopin in Classics and Jazz” Concert at the Concert Hall of “Master Klass”
1 March 2010Admirers of Chopin witnessed the timelessness of real art when they came to “Master Klass” on 1st March.
The concert “Chopin in Classics and Jazz” opened a series of events entitled "Days of Chopin", linked to the 200th anniversary of the birth of the outstanding Polish composer, and became the first event within the framework of the new project “Classics and Jazz”. The project has been initiated by the Cultural and Educational Centre “Master Klass” and the production centre "Jazz in Kiev".
The concert was led by the charismatic Oleksiy Kogan, a significant person among jazz admirers in Kyiv. It was he who put the spectators in touch with the musicians.

The young Kyiv pianist Andriy Bondarenko effortlessly and brilliantly performed the classical part of the concert by playing well known music by Chopin. Andrey was followed by a pianist from Odesa, an experienced master of Soviet avant-garde jazz, Yuriy Kuznetsov. Classical music was forgotten for a while when he appeared on stage.
Yuriy seemed to turn the piano into a musical machine that could clang, thunder, shake and rattle. The audience, watching with bated breath as the musician played his own version of the creative work by the great maestro, begged for more. And that is why everyone was delighted with the unplanned concert finale: both Yuriy and Andriy improvised together, thus combining classical and jazz, history and modernity.
