"Classics on Fridays", "Collegium Kiev Winds"
2 March 2012.jpg)
Continuing our mini-survey of masterpieces for wind ensemble, on 2nd March at 8pm at MasterKlass Cultural Centre, 16a Lavrska st. (www.masterklass.org), Collegium Kiev Winds will present another two great works rarely heard as they neither belong on the concert platform nor fit into the traditional programme.
In programme:
A. Dvorak "Serenade for Wind"
R. Strauss "Suite for 13 Winds", Op.4
The Serenade for Wind by Antonin Dvorak – less well known than the popular Serenade for Strings but one of the composer’s sunniest and most delightful compositions. As well as an elegance derived from the influence of Mozart and Schubert, the work is suffused with the character of Bohemian peasant dances.
Richard Strauss’s Suite for 13 Winds, Op.4 was written when he was only 19, The unrehearsed premiere in 1884 marked the debut of Strauss the conductor. Something of a rarity, the Suite is a complex and sophisticated work guaranteed to thrill and impress the listener.
